What's new
WE ARE in full book launch mode for Jeffrey Croteau's chapbook "Oranges" with a series of readings and signings underway, possibly to include a special St Valentine's Day event in February. You can keep abreast of all things Oranges here and here.
RiverRun Books in Portsmouth, N.H. hosted Jeff and the press on a wintry but nevertheless well-attended reading on Tuesday, December 11.
Before that, on Monday, November 19 the Stone Soup poets in Cambridge, Mass., Chris read a few poems from Frank O'Hara and others by way of introducing Jeff, who was the night's featured reader. For more information on this diverse group of devoted poets, visit the Stone Soup Poetry web page and unto you all shall all things be revealed. Oranges was printed digitally with a letterpress cover and bound by hand in a limited first edition of 50 copies. See the links above for more info, or email us with enquiries about Jeff's book. * * * * We've put our son Max to work sorting paper for Jeff's book.
* * * * Chris has been painting, of all things. * * * * The Press is planning (still planning...) a line of hand-printed artists' and writers' journals (and possibly cards and personal stationery) in a variety of antique and contemporary motifs, including "gothic" designs based on New England gravestone art. More information to follow (maybe), but the plan is to sell these exclusively through RiverRun Bookstore in Portsmouth. * * * * Letterpress greeting cards by Penhallow Press are now being sold at the artstream gallery and art academy in Manchester, N.H. More locations soon, we hope! * * * * Penhallow Press has successfully collaborated with Chester College of New England, Blue Tree Publishing and The Banks Gallery in Portsmouth to issue a limited-edition portfolio of fine giclee art prints. The handbound portfolio, crafted by Chester College book artist Nancy Diessner, is complemented by a handbound essay with letterpress cover. The 27 prints are outstanding. The essay, written by Chrstopher Volpe, is reprinted from the catalog for The Banks Gallery's "Boston School Legacy" exhibition of historical and contemporary Boston artists. Hardcover copies of the catalog are for sale upon request. Several of the artists represented in "The Boston School Legacy" will attend a reception and book signing at The Banks Gallery on Friday, December 8, from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition opened at the Tenth Annual International Boston Fine Art Show on November 9. * * * *
Penhallow Press author James Rioux was one of two readers featured at the York Public Library in York, Maine on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. He shared the podium with Maine's poet laureate, Baron Wormser. We're working on more readings for James' book, Fistfuls of the Invisible for purchase and signing. * * * * Penhallow Press was in Boston Monday, February 20, for the venerable Stone Soup open mic, hosted by Boston poet Chad Parenteau. In addition to promoting James Rioux's book Fistfuls of the Invisible, Anna and Chris read their own poems as featured readers. The press printed 20 copies of a letterpress broadside of one of Chad Parenteau's poems for the occassion.
The press has retained a few of these broadsides to sell. Because the quality of the printing is, in our opinion, a bit shy of truly fine, the press is offering them for only $6 each. The quality of the poetry is not affected of course. Each is numbered and signed by the poet. * * * * Our first full-length book title, "Fistfuls of the Invisible," a limited edition collection of poems by Exeter, N.H. poet James Rioux, is on sale at select bookstores and directly from the press. Jim was featured on Gary Widger's spoken word show March 5 at 5-7 p.m.on WSCA, 106.1, Portsmouth's independent community radio station. Check Jim's calendar page for additional reading and signing dates.
James Rioux signs copies of "Fistfuls of the Invisible" at theWater Street Bookstore in Exeter on Feb. 3, 2006. Read about James Rioux as featured in the Portsmouth Herald * * * * Rus Bowden, a columnist for Web del sol, one of the most respected online poetry communities, has posted a link to the Herald article in the "Poetry and Poets in Rags" column of the Interboard Poetry Community page. It's an honor for us and a high compliment for Jim. Thanks Rus! * * * * Our press and editorial offices are located on the Portsmouth campus of Franklin Pierce College. We are exploring the possibility of publishing an ongoing poetry series or helping with other arts and humanities projects in partnership with Franklin Pierce. ~ & press on we will ~ * * *
